I put together a prototype for an online multiplayer FPS game which revolves around real world factions and divisions.

Obviously everything would look a lot better with dedicated talent, but the main idea behind it was to have a game where players align to their real world alliances and do battle against their real world enemies.

I don't know if anything will come of it, its just something I wanted to put out there as I worked on it in my spare time.

My main question is, and trolling aside, do you like the idea of playing a game where your team mates are people you are aligned with in the real world on big world issues and your opposition are people who you dislike?

And of course it would have FFA type things too, but it makes more sense as a team game.

It really daunting looking at the visual quality of games like BF6, but its 400 million dollar game with about 6,000 staff.

I'm personally bored of so many games these days, so I wanted to bypass legacy rulesets for how games are made.
Arbitrary teams and factions etc, that don't really mean much, and bring in low level emotions and then build a game around that.

Will there be bets for group stages?

If so, I'd rather save my e$r monies and spend them on more matches

This is just a poll, not a fixture.

And yes, I'm planning to make bets for the most interesting group stage matches :)

I would.
Let's look at how the tournament is probably going to unfold for him:

Group stage:
Placing 1st/2nd in group stage is almost guaranteed, given his relatively easy group. Probability: 99%

Round of 16:
He will play against 3rd/4th place of some group, possibly group C. This would mean the likes of sting, detrony or gienon. That's no challenge for him. Probability: 99%

Quarter finals:
This is the first big, really important match for him. He's already warmed up perfectly. Even now, he will be the 70:30 favorite in most of the matches (e.g. when matched up against demon, fraze, cooller, phantom, av3k, tox, fazz, ...).
However, we might already see some cointoss-y matches like rapha-evil, rapha-cypher or rapha-dahang at this point, I'll give you that.
Probability: ~65%

Total probability of top4: .99 * .99 * .65 = 64%

dunno what you based your predictions on, especially for ro16, but from what i've seen most of the top players upped their game compared to quakecon standard, and rapha is still behind his quakecon form.

Name one LAN loss of rapha against someone as skilled as gienon or sting.

-- That's what I based my predictions on.

What players are you talking about? Cypher, evil, avek, dahang?
It's very unlikely that he'll meet some of those players in the round of 16.

What is unclear to you?
He will be 1st/2nd in group D, so it's likely he will play against 3rd/4th of group C.

And it's not like any other possible 3rd/4th place (except maybe spartie?) could beat him.

That's what I assume. But it doesn't matter too much, because (almost) anyone placing 3rd/4th in group stage will be too easy for rapha.

What do you know about his shape? I'm honestly curious.

He's always been well prepared for any international LAN. And all I see on qlranks is him owning everyone except DaHanG. But I really don't think this indicates that rapha somehow forgot how to quake.

edit: Are we talking about the same rapha, i.e. the most successful QL player who even made av3k quit quake for a period of time? If you were saying this kind of stuff about someone like k1llsen or cooller -- alright. But rapha? He won't come ill-prepared.

well if he's not aborting matches like cooller, i know that dahang is wiping the floor with him, and there's a week minus the trip before dreamhack.

the rest of your post is irrelevant.

Wiping the floor? That's not exactly true and might just be a testament to rapha's training methods. You can't possibly know. :)

The question is -- who would DaHanG wipe the floor with if he was playing against them? Gienon? Most definitely. matr0x? Of course. twister? Yep. Detrony? Him too.

The rest is highly relevant, you just don't want to see it. If you want to pretend rapha was some newschool player rising up and failing to beat DaHanG, that's fine with me, though. ;)

Once again: You can't judge how rapha will play against the Europeans by looking at a dozen practice matches he played against DaHang.

As this is your only (flawed) argument, and you've ignored all my arguments, I don't think this discussion is going anywhere.

Don't forget that before Quakecon rapha was losing almost all his matches against DaHanG that even made him look unstoppable, then Quakecon came and in LAN DaHanG couldn't win any round against him.
