After successful draft tournament #1 and winter holiday special, with around 90/60 participants and many close games, we are pleased to announce #tdmpickup draft #2! The event is scheduled on 20th of January 2013, with signups open from 11:00 CDT to 12:00 CDT. Rules are almost the same as last time. In order to be able to signup for the tournament, you need to play at least 10 games before the tournament on our #tdmpickup channel.


This event will be streamed by the best TDM streaming organization ever, which of course is lvl^. Have fun!

Admins are the unsung heroes at most of the major tournaments. They’re the people responsible for keeping a tournament free of drama and contribute the most towards the successful execution of anything ranging from an online league to a major LAN. I was lucky enough to have an online sit-down with one such guy who’s been really active in the Quake scene – Dmitriy “nicerdicer” Khoriev.

An excerpt:

I think FPS should be present at any good LAN tournament, no matter what, be it major or just a local one. The question though is which FPS game would be in the games list. Community wants a game like Quake, but sponsors want a game that will deliver some money in the end. So it's really hard to strike a balance between these two options. Reborn could be the next best thing for FPS if it manages to break in. But for now, we have Shootmania which is more about money and is less enjoyable compared to Quake, which is slowly dying every day.

This week we will make some changes to how we set up the FACEIT Quake Live Daily Cups. First of all, we are happy to say that we are going to continue with them!

The first change this week will be that the cups on Monday and Tuesday will have a 20$ prize, except for the Level 4 cup. They will remain free-to-play. On Wednesday and Thursday the same cups will run, but with a buy-in and higher prizes; Level 4 with $20 and the other levels will have a 40$ prize.

Both the Level 10 Cups on Tuesday and Thursday will be casted live on FACEIT TV by United Kingdom Daniel "ddk" Kapadia and United Kingdom Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne.

This structure is only for this week. In the future we will also look to integrate more gametypes, but more news on this later.


Another change we are going to make is the map pool we are currently using. We currently have a poll up on Facebook where you can choose which map you want to see removed from the current pool. We will then use it as guideline to create a new map pool for the coming weeks.

One of the oldest and greatest mods of Quake III: Arena is still in development: Defrag 1.91.21 is out!

This new version is primarily a fix release, but introduces some new features like the /ignore [playernum] command or the NOOB surfaces.


There is also a bright new version of q3df.org, the website holding and maintaining the records database and Defrag World Cup event.
