Ben Kuchera, of The Penny Arcade Report, sat down with id Software's Tim Willits at QuakeCon 2012 to discuss Doom, Rage, and lessons learned.

John Carmack kicked off his 2012 QuakeCon keynote by apologizing for Rage. He candidly discussed the driver issues, the marketing challenges, and the end of the game itself, which he characterized as being “not very good.” It was a conversation you rarely see from someone as powerful as Carmack, and it seemed to pull the crowd to his side from the first moments of the speech. It didn’t make everyone happy, however.

“I wanted to strangle him. It’s QuakeCon! Everyone fucking loves Rage here, shut up!” Tim Willits, the creative direct of id Software, told me in an interview the next day. He was laughing, and seemed to take it in stride, but still. Everyone in the room knew this was going to be a big story. “You don’t think everyone in the audience knows that ATI released the wrong drivers? Dude, zip it!”

Painkiller HD beta - a new hope? (68 comments)

So i received the long awaited Painkiller Hell & Damnation Key. Props to Nordic Game they are quite generous with the keys. If you write them an email with some nice words you might get one pretty quick. Anyway I downloaded (700mb) the game and installed it. Before I could install it a rather easy steam bug appeared and i had to update my driver. I have read a lot about this error in the forums and it seems it is a common steam bug which nordic games is not to blame for. Also you can't change controls or mouse in the options menu yet but thats no problem, the config file is easy to find and easy to rewrite manually.

Well thought I would keep the ball rolling here and post up another event post-QuakeCon. So without further a due here we go!!! Since QL just brought out a new release of content I thought we would do the new map that cityy made: Silence. Format is the same Double Elimination event!

This event starts at 20:00 CDT with check-in starting at 19:00 CDT, and is first-come first-serve, so check-in early!!

Anyone who doesn't have premium or pro don't worry we can spawn a server for you and your opponent if neither of you have it! I would prefer to see all matches played on private servers with passwords in order to not have any disruptions!

With over 200,000 views and 260 entries from the first contest, Fatal1ty’s Best Frag Contest is back, starting August 3rd, 2012.

Gamers worldwide can show off their best frag by submitting a video that is no more than 30 seconds in length. Submissions will be accepted between August 3rd and August 15th . Fatal1ty will choose the 10 best frags from the selection of participant submitted videos.

The 10 selected best frag videos will be posted to Fatal1ty.com, and voting will run from August 20th to August 25th. The winners will be selected based on the amount of likes their videos receive on YouTube. The top 3 frags will be announced August 27th via Fatal1ty.com.

This is it. The end of over a decade long professional eSports in Korea as we know it. With first OGN Starcraft 2 Starleague right behind the corner, we are left with one last look at professional Brood War at it's best.

This year's finals is a reprisal of last year's in which sc2_protossJangBi completed Legend of the Fall against sc2_terranFantasy to seal his first ever OSL title which left sc2_terranFantasy in the Kong Line.

Starting tomorrow from 04:00 CDT we will find out if sc2_protossJangBi becomes only protoss alongside sc2_protossGarimto to win two OSL titles and repeats a feat only matched by sc2_terranBoxeR and sc2_zergJaedong - to win a back-to-back OSL title. Also, this is the last chance for sc2_terranFantasy to break his Kong curse and become immortalized as the last Brood War OSL champion ever.

Update: sc2_protossJangBi takes home the last Brood War OSL ever in what proved to be a complete rape of sc2_terranFantasy! Well done \o/ GG NO RE. Fantasy remains King of Kong.
