Signups for Quake America Duel Cup #1 are now open!

In order to sign up for the Quake America Duel Cups, simply follow the link at the top of any page on the Quake America website, then follow the directions. You will be required to register yourself into the tourney.cc database.

Duel Cup #1 will begin on 21:00 CDT on Saturday, January 30th. Sign up now to get in!

Keep in mind, if you would like to play, you need also be present in #quakeamerica on the GameSurge IRC network at least 20 minutes ahead of time in order to go through the sign in phase.

eSportsPress has launched its second version. eSportsPress 2 as it is called features a complete redesign and rewritten code to make the site a lot faster.

Magnus 'fox' Olsson had low expectations when he arrived in Cologne for the IEM European Championship Finals and thought to be knocked out in the groupstage. But he managed to finish second in his group and is going to play against his teammate Cooller in the playoffs. fragster sat down with the Swede who explained why he did not put much time into his preparations.

You reached the playoffs, but before the event you said that you might get raped and lose to noctis. In both cases you were wrong. Are you getting better from game to game here in Cologne?

Sweden fox: I don't think so. noctis played below his level and that's one of the reasons why I was able to beat him, but I'm definitely satisfied. I was not excepting it, I was like 70 percent sure that I get knocked out in the groupstage.

Today, the AGP Tour would like to announce that effective immediately it will be under new management. The new management team will include highly experienced administrators from several different gaming genres. With this change in management, the AGP Tour will be going in a whole new direction to expand its current operations to include more sponsors, games, LAN and online tournaments, and a new structured point system. While more titles are being looked into, you can expect popular game titles like Modern Warfare 2, Team Fortress 2, WarCraft III, and Counter-Strike to join Quake Live in the Tour.

The new AGP Tour is also planning to go deeper into the gaming community. With that, feedback from the community is always welcomed. If you would like to contact us regarding anything including the games you would like to see in the Tour, please message us through the website (www.agptour.com).

As it doesnt seem likely that we are getting any new, nor old maps at the moment,
I’d like id to consider some simple changes to dm20, to make it more enjoyable in TDM.
We didn’t change the layout, but I think these few changes will help a lot.
(Suggestions are welcome but please NOT about layout changes, as that will be an endless story)

Change List:

Removed RA Tele, and placed a Jumppad nearby.
Moved RA out of the corridoor and into the Corner.
2nd Tele leads directly to upper Level in the same Area.
Moved Quad to old lower YA, 5 shards added, moved 5hp bubbles + added 2x 5hp.
Moved lower YA to old Quad position.

The fnatic player Sweden Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira had a very good start into the year 2009 with a second place at QuakeCon. But then his performance got worse from tournament to tournament. fragster.de fragster sat down with the Swede and found out the reasons for his latest results at LAN events, including his biggest weakness when it comes to gaming. Here is a snippet:

More and more top players participate at those online tournaments, even Cooller, Cypher and Co. Is it useful to play them right before such an important event like the IEM European Finals?

Sweden Spart1e: LAN events are always more important than online cups. I guess a lot of players are playing those cups for practise. I am playing for the money. With such short notice before an event you can't know if the players are doing their best or if they are playing to see how their opponents are playing. If I knew I already had good praccpartners to play with I wouldn't play it. But if not, I guess it could be a good idea to play the cups, maybe not to win, but to see and prepare for your big event.

Creative Gaming Challenge Quakelive cup (No comments)

The first edition of the Creative Gaming Challenge Quakelive cup is
coming up. The Creative Gaming Challenge, shortname “The CGC” is
still in it’s test fase so some minor bugs can be encountered on the
site, but are not related to the cupsystem.

The Quakelive cup will be with 16 slots and will utilize a Winner/Loser
Bracketsystem without groups. Each match will be played using a "Best of
Three" (BO3) format and will be start the 6th and 7th of February.

The tournament is available for everyone from europe. This first ‘test’
edition will hold no prizes yet, but if succesfull, we will add some
