you must have mistyped it
cl_cu
then hit the tab key, it is the only thing that will auto complete from that.

unless he has execed a config containing that value misspelled at some point. as for myself, i couldnt possibly live without my "r_vertexlighting" or "r_mapoverbrihgtbits"!!

at least i think thats why those values show up in my console

Also make sure your cfg isn't set up so weird it somehow removed the cvar.

Tried this before, can relate.

That isn't supposed to be able to happen at all any more, they stopped cvars with same name as in built ones being created.

In that case I retract my first comment but nevertheless keep it there because of internet archives. \o/
