technically it's by far the best promode movie ever, the effects and recams are quality, really sweet editing, most of the frags are of a decent standard, loads of ctf stuff, music fits very nicely and there was an immense good feeling to it. and including the swelt pummel s0up event was genius ! long awaited to come into a movie. also nice cap shaun BE

i'm a hud lover and kinda missed it, i thought the custom frag messages were a bit bizzare and maybe the gamesounds were a notch too low. although none of that really means much. and my quad run on acid's map really horribly messed up the pace, i feel kinda bad for that SORRY :E BE !! <3

Hmm, was good but by no means would I say it's the best promode movie evar. Sure the editing was pretty good, but that isn't really why I watch promode movies to begin with. :) Also, do we really need a third of the movie to be credits? I understand that the proper people should be credited, but wouldn't it trim down the filesize by a large chunk if you just put everybody in a text file?

Yea 3.30min of credits is far too much. But plain white text on black background really doesn't do that much sizewise to the file. I would think 4-5mb tops would have been saved.

I think it's best to just keep the memories of the games. There's no point going back now, it's not the same. I get the same feeling watching SC vods, or QW frag movies - best to remember the good times, as they're only going to recede into the distance, not reappear.

CPMA rocks in every aspect except the scarcity of players. Imo, there should be a promode appreciation weekend, with 1.33 and a weekend where there's pickup madness, everyone is encouraged to play, and their only mission is to play. Even if you don't feel like a game right then, you'll be encouraged to !add and probably come to like it during the game :D.

Ix, make promode appreciation weekend happen!

Call it Challenge Weekend!

(Maybe a mini cup as well? :D)

I'm sure I could finish my map in time for that weekend.

nice frags in this movie, but i was very dark, couldnt really see what was goin on. Worst thing has to be 3rd of the video being credits, 4 minutes of credits in a 13 min video.

It was ok, but tbh I expected more since tricking it was something, well... fresh, and this was... more or less a copy of it. Its like a good joke: first time its excellent, second time its ok, third time... etc
I would appreciate something fresh, and not the same stuff again and again, but then again I appreciate any efforts in general.

perhaps its not just the music but also the quality. The used cfgs seem to be very similar. Get quaked 3 / Mercurial have the same style, imho. no offence... I liked the movie.....
But perhaps gzzt is simply tired of fragmovies :)

shaolin movies only seem alike (the really are not, not sure where this idea started up) cause they are all just great. cfg looks the same, cause thats the highest quality version

As i said, i really like shaolinmovies, they are awesome. But I have to agree with gzzt as well, because shaolinmovies often have a similar kind of music and cameratrackings. I think there is nothing wrong to say that people would also appreciate a new style but the current is also awesome!

Since all the good stuff is obvious I'm just gonna list what I believe is negative :=

No PM skins! - Often you can't see wtf is going on (especially with all the gibs during quadruns, you literally can't see what aggnog is shooting at on dm6 and the blue map) and you have to rely on hitsounds and fragmsg to figure out what just happend. It's not _that_ bad in the ctf sections though.

Music too high compared to in-game sounds (combine with above comment and you'll see the problem)

The music is REALLY SHITTY. Reminds me of that mindless German DUNK DUNK DUNK techno shit that used to be popular in Denmark a while back and it makes me want to scream TURN THAT SHIT DOWN! at my neighbours... But that's purely subjective ofc :)
1st time I watched the movie and heard the DUNK DUNK DUNK beginning I thought to myself "God plz no..."
2nd time I watched the movie I just muted sound.

Credits too long, but I guess most people will just skip the last 3.30 min (I sure did)

btw, other than that, excellent job :)

really impressive, the music actually seemed to have relavence to what was going on \o/ which made it more powerful which impressed me - very high calibre editting/camming for a frag movie imo, and it didn't seem like it was over done which a lot of movies have done. good balance. only negatives i can think of are the lack of brightskins, it's hard to tell what's being shot at on occasions, which took me out of the mood i just got put in as my brain tried to work out what was going on.

The action is really hard to follow throughout the movie. Two things:

1) Get your PM skins straight
2) Go for 1000fps.

Oh, and you get a plus for having Infected Mushroom.

Seriously. This was done on 125 fps or something, right? 1000 fps properly blended allows you to stay completely on track even with the fastest of moves. It also looks great as hell. The 5-frames-in-one effect in this movie lacked both qualities, I'm afraid, which constantly annoyed me while watching.

1000 could be better in some people's opinions (i personally think the blending thing is way too much with 1000 fps) but it takes way too long to capture. try it once and see how long it takes :) not to mention it also requires a shitload of hdd space which i don't have. i didn't use PM skins because i think they look quite ugly in a video when the rest of the stuff is made to look good. i should have made things a little brighter perhaps for better visibility. sorry about that :)

Hmm, I think so. When I use it I get jpg pictures as output instead of tga's. Harddisk place and writetime are therefore greatly lowered, but I have NO idea if it takes longer to capture with a slow cpu due to compression time.

Anyway, there's a thread on overdrivepc about the hook where you probably could solve your problem.

my cpu should be fast enough for capturing screenshots from q3. its an AMD 2800+ 64. when i tried the hook, capturing took longer and i guess it was because the hook was compressing the each screenshot to jpeg.

I would agree pretty much with gzzt (#51)

Don't get me wrong, this movie is nice, and it represents a lot of work for sure. Frags are very good, and the first cap is w000sh :P

The style of music is not really my bag (but I assume it's a matter of personnal taste). Only, shaolin productions tend to do all the same kind of "products" for a while, with the same music etc.
I really like to discover some new music style in a movie, and I didn't have any surprise in this one :-(

Editing fits nicely, not too heavy (like a russian trick movie I watched a few weeks ago, can't remember the name ^_^ ).
-I miss a HUD to have all the game informations (ok, it gain some compression without it!)
-The blend effect seems very weird sometimes...especially in flickshot actions. What kind is it ? Is it a bad setting for TGA Hook ?
-The outro is far too long, but almost everyone noticed that. This rolling credit is sooo slow :P

Nice job anyway, CPM movies are very enjoyable

The content in the movie was totally awesome. Period.

Editing was cool, but became too blurry at some times, and pretty hard to follow with no brightskins. It's like playing CPM on normal skins, can't follow the action.

Music was just ok, at least better than Requiem for a dream OST in its 81741st quake movie appearance. That's my personal taste of course.

And I downloaded the x264 version, didn't wanna wait for the xvid one. It reminded me again that this codec SUX :)

I don't get why we choose to play Q4, a game that will never be better than it's predecessors, over a game that is already done and competition ready (CPMA, although I could ask the same thing as to why people abandoned QW for Q2/Q3). This is why esports will never be a true sport, the genre keeps straying away from what makes it what it is, fast and FUN.
